Lagoa das Sete Cidades

The Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a twin lake located in the crater of a dormant volcano on the western third of the São Miguel Island of the Azores Archipelago.

It consists of two connected lagoons, which are ecologically different and are connected by a narrow one that is accessible through a bridge. Although it is hydrologically considered a lagoon, the Lagoa das Setes Cidades is often referred to as two separate bodies of water - the Green Lake and the Blue Lake, given that they reflect different colors in the sun.

The Lagoa das Sete Cidades is the largest body of water in this region and one of the most important fresh water sources in the archipelago. Due to the geomorphological structures of this ancient volcano, its hydro chemical properties produce many types of springs and water nets.
